Nutrition supplies the building blocks for your body to heal. If you built a house with nothing but cardboard and rotted wood you would never expect that house to be strong and last for any length of time. Your nutrition is no different, if we eat foods that don't supply the proper vitamins, minerals, macromolecules, phyonutrients, ect.. then we can't expect to express health.

The challenge comes in that each person is unique and there is no one size fits all diet or lifestyle. It would make our job as a physician much easier if there were, but that's not reality which is why we use both your health history and selective testing to figure out what your body needs.

As much as I would like to have everyone make there own meals, buy organic, practice stress relieving techniques daily, not eat sugar, ect.. that's not actually feasable. Our goal is to find out where your body is at and make a plan that can meet you where your at and move you in the right direction. Dr. Colton will make this blanket statement, if it's found that a lifestye change is necessary and he makes a recommendation but it's not followed, then you can expect limited results. We still love you, but just know that upfront.

FAQ

Testing is not required but, in almost every case, is very helpful. An easy way to understand this concept is saying is dashboard in your car necessary? Well no, the car will still run without it and we can guess how fast we are going, how much fuel is in the tank, if the car is overheating, ect... but it's much easier to see the numbers and gauge how your doing. This doesn't mean we only depend on dashboard, if there is a clunking sound and your check engine light doesn't come on, by all means don't ignore it! The same is true for your body. We can use both testing and your health history to best decide how to approach your care.
Ideally no, realistically yes. It would be great to get all the nutrients we need from the food we consume, however do to multiple factors like soil depletion and commercial farming, it makes it nearly impossible to do without some supplemental support.
The answer depends on how healthy you are. If someone comes in with severe adrenal and thyroid issues and no iron reserve they will obviously need to be on certain supplement supports longer then somone who just wants to maintain there health. Certain supplements are used in cylical manner to support the body as needed. A great example of this is supplementing Vitamin D3 with K2 during the winter months in Wisconsin. Where are we supposed to get Vitamin D from? The sun. During Wisconsin winters we don't get enough sunlight to be sufficient therefore we need to supplement.
Nope. The reason we carry certain supplements is because we know they are good. Two very important things to remember when buying any supplement is where did the company get there raw materials from and how did they process those raw materials? If either of those two aren't good then we can get a really bad supplement. With that being said, many of our supplements are only sold to practioners because they have a very powerful effect on the body and they don't want just anybody using them. As a result our supplements are not the cheapest on the market, nor do you want them to be.
